This shot is taken from the Abitibi Canyon Generating Station, north of Cochrane, ON. The impact of hydroelectric power generation in Ontario's North is an ongoing issue both from an environmental perspective and from the politics associated with building on local Indigenous land. The dam controls the release of water downstream on the Abitibi River and has created erosion and environmental impact for both wildlife habitat, and Indigenous communities. While hydroelectric power is a clean form of energy, not many people are aware of the environmental impacts of harnessing it's power. The landscape of Ontario's North is being changed one dam at a time.
